designs stitched by Martha Spencer for Zimbabwe childrens mission

Martha first became interested in the Zimbabwe mission after reading Pam Kidd's articles in Daily Guideposts. Martha and three friends" stitched 29 of the Joyful Expressions designs, so that each child could have one of their own.

"To keep them as lightweight as possible, and as small as possible, since they'll go in suitcases, I used cardboard backing with polystyrene on the front (need something to protect from dust in Zim as some of the houses have dirt floors), and used grosgrain ribbon around the edges. I'm not real pleased with how the ribbon worked out, but it was the best we could come up with for a "frameless" frame.... Anyway, the cross-stitch verses & pictures turned out beautifully, and I know everyone will love them!"

Sandra,

I love making these name blessings for the kids. If I had time I would make them for others as well! ;)

so glad I found your website a few years ago when I made my first blessing! I've enjoyed working with you! I am trying to pin a few names every day. I also posted on Facebook! I hope others will see how cool these are and look into making one!

Because of the unusual names we usually pick, I'm sure I'll have another request when #5 comes along around February or so!

Hello Sandra,

I received my kit today on Aug 8th and am excited. I have been working on the "Names of Jesus" all in purple and silver and will post a picture once it is done. Your kits are amazing and love that I can download and save patterns. Keep up the good work with your ministry; I am very blessed. It is nice to know that Christians still love Jesus and that they love Him to follow Him in any part of life.

Dear Sandra,

Just thought I'd let you know how the quilt with your lovely patterns turned out. My son and his wife-to-be opened it at the rehearsal dinner and they loved it!

Thanks so much - it was beautiful!

Yours,

Margaret

P.S. The bride's mom cried when they opened it!

Charts utilized for either the butterfly border and/or the Bible Verse
Heart, Soul, Strength, Deuteronomy 6:5
Delight in the Lord, Psalm 37:4
Taste and See, Psalm 34:8
This is the Day, Psalm 118:24

My husband and I are long term missionaries serving in Villa Nueva, Guatemala.
I started buying these kits to make as gifts for some of our supporters.
I truly enjoy being able to select bible verses that make me think of each individual supporter
or a bible verse I would like to pray over their lives.
As I stitch these designs I pray for them and their families.
I plan on explaining to each of them why I chose the specific verse
for them and what the prayers were that I prayed for them while working on the design.
I enjoy these designs because they are beautiful but easy which allows me
to get a lot done in the small amounts of free time I have.
I have now also bought some charts in Spanish to make as gifts for some of the families we serve here.
Thank you for this website and for helping me to share the gift of God's word to others.

My friend Diane has Muscular Dystrophy and can hardly walk.
She spends her time creating small hangings of encouragements thru her needlepoint.

For my 80th birthday she gathered buttons from my friends at church and sewed them on a pillow,
see in the photo. On the back side she wrote in needlepoint all the names of the donors.
She told me that she spent hours counting all the letters to make them come out right.

Bless her heart!

Thanks for your help,

This was completed for a co-worker of mine that requested this piece. I went to my local craft store and purchased a frame with a mat included. I then purchased scrapbooking paper of my choice and cut it to fit the mat as I desired. It ended up turning out well and Rose absolutely loved it! ...Just a neat little way of making each individual piece your own.

Hello

I am sending photos of my completed "Work for the Lord" cross stitch project. I hope you are able to clearly see how nice it looks completed. I am very pleased with it.

I made it as a gift for my brother in law. He does wood working as a hobby and has "Col 3:23" carved into his wood working table. Hopefully, he will hang this cross stitch design in his work shop.

Thank you for providing the design. I look forward to completing more of your scripture designs.

Connie

Just a note - to achieve a better contrast, I think that I will use a darker gray thread for the wording if I repeat this project - especially, if I use the linen-look vintage cross stitch fabric.

Christine changed the charted colors to her own, with beautiful results!

This is what Christine shared about the design:

I stitched this for my daughter's 18th birthday. She is fluent in Spanish and will be pursuing a double major in college next year - Pre-Med and Spanish. Her desire is to be a pediatric oncologist. She is convinced she will cure at least some kids of cancer!

Even though the colors are hard to decipher- I used a mint green (very pale) 14 ct aida from DMC. Colors were 5 of them, in the aqua and green families. The real thing looks awesome!

Sandra,

Last night I finished the design with the hands releasing the heart. At least that's how I see it. I used a different verse though - Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only. Because to me, I see us releasing our heart to God in worship, giving out heart to Him only. It was so strange and cool to be stitching hands but not using "coral" or "flesh" colors.

It was one that first took my eye when first found your site. I am now in my senior years and have been a Christian for a long time now, The image of water here that Jesus used and to be rooted deeply and firmly in Christ like the roots of a tree. It says it all for myself personally.

I do Family History and have been battling with an upgrade to my program for it all day, trying to get it downloaded and organised so now ready to give my computer away completely for today.

Sandra,

Good evening.

It's been awhile since I have talked to you - hope you & family are well. I think I told you that I started a new job: accounting, taxes, etc. and after nearly a month, I really like it and I enjoy going to work everyday.

I finally got the Phil 4:13 needlework done and just today made it into a pillow. I am sending you a couple pictures that I took of it. Enjoy them.

Thank you again for your design. I will send pictures of the Eph 4:16 as soon as I get it done; I am 1/2 done with it. Let me know what you think.

Have a great weekend.

Dear Sandra

Thank you very much for the lovely cross-stich kit (the brokenhearted one) - I received it over a week ago, and am making excellent progress.

Some comments about doing it: I really appreciated the generous amount of fabric and thread. I ended up using a thinner needle than the one in the kit too. And I really enjoyed and was blessed by stitching a Bible verse - something I'm definitely planning to do again in future.

I hope my friend will also be delighted by the result - and even if she isn't, at least I was!

The material I used are bookmarks from Joann Fabric, then cut them shorter, folded and sewed the ends and attached a velcro circle on each end.

If you were to create new designs I would be very happy to buy them. I am not good in creating things of that nature. Should these pictures be acceptable you are welcome to show them on your web site. If so, I would be glad to accept your offer of your new "Fruit of the Spirit" design pattern.

Leigh Dear Sandra,

Christian greetings from Japan! This is Koyuki Sami. Thank you for your quick reply to Miyo Kimura who is helping me in this ministry. Thank you so much for your interest in our ministry as well as your permission to use your charts.

Let me tell you about our ministry, Pili Project. I am a missionary of OMF International, an international mission organization which was founded by Hudson Taylor in 1865.

I worked in the Philippines from 1992 to 2005 among the urban poor as well as the rural poor, and did church planting and community development.

Pili is the name of the rural fishing/farming community where I was ministering. It is located on Mindoro island of the Philippines. Pili Project was started in 2003 by a local evangelical church called Pili Bible Church. I led the community development committee of the church and Pili Project was born.

The Pili project is consist of 4 different projects, farming, fishing, race marketing and cross-stitch project. The aim of the Pili project is to provide more income for the participants and community and also is to run a Christian kindergarten for children of the poor families in the community.

At the same time they learn to use and develop their talents which God has given to them. Now the cross-stitch project has about 40 workers, cross-stitching, sawing and making different items such as cards, book marks, bible covers and bags etc.. The main market of the project is in Japan, Christian book shops, churches and individuals.

Now I am back in Japan, doing mobilization work for the mission at the same time helping the Pili project with coordinating and selling products. Miyo has joined me in this ministry recently, and has been such a blessing to me. She also designs cross-stitches! We are constantly in search of new designs. We liked your His Name design very much. We are delighted to hear from you and to get your permission to use it.

We will visit your site from time to time and probably will find other good designs for the purpose.

Thank you again. God bless you! For His Glory!

Koyuki Sami

Hi Sandra,

I thought you might like to know the story behind this, in a nutshell. (Custom Design of John 3:16)

I am a member of my Church's choir (Crawley Baptist Church) and one of the songs we did for our Carol Service was one using these beautiful words. We have a lady that supports our choir in prayer said that we were like threads and God was the needle sewing the Choir together to make a beautiful picture. and this gave me the idea to find a cross stitch of the words, have it made up and give it to our Choir Leader as a thank you gift She was absolutely thrilled with it .

Thanks once again

Barbara Marks

I have just purchased and downloaded two beautiful charts from your site.
I am making these into pillows as thank you gifts for the minister,
wedding coordinator, and organist at our daughter's wedding in May.
They will be paid, but they have each been more special than just money.
I love to cross stitch so Sarah asked me to do this for them.
I am so happy to find your web site. It is now bookmarked in my computer.

Thank you.

Dear Sandra,

Hi from Australia.

I have almost finished "Wonderfully Made" pattern for another recent great nephew born in September.
I now have 8 great nephews and 13 great nieces. I am a single person and all these little ones are dear to me.
It is the third boy for this couple and the mum was rather upset at first as she really wanted a girl.
they are going to have another one and be happy with what ever they get next time. there plan has always been to have four children.
She had much trouble falling pregnant in the first place and didn't think she would have any at all. I felt the verse fitted the situation.
The mum and her husband who is my nephew are a lovely Christian couple.

Lyn

Sandra,

Thank you so much for your response. I have your site in my
favorites and I was really excited about finding just what I was looking
for. It was nice of you to let me choose another chart, although it's really
not necessary. I am on my way to work now so I don't have much time, but I
will get back to you later. There is something I want to share with you that
maybe I could purchase a custom with this idea. Thanks again.

My Best,

Betsy Beck

Sandra,

Thank you! I have downloaded the chart and have started the beautiful design.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your site, your art work and the scriptures.
This design will be so important for the family of Taylor to hold onto the truths of God's Word as they journey through this deep valley.
It is the richest blessing to know that God impresses the center people,
at the center time with the needed skills to create something that brings His comfort into being!

Bless you for your faithfulness in using your God given talent to enrich the lives of those who seek
and find joy, peace and comfort from The King of Kings.

In the fullness of His love,

Marta

Dear Sandra,

Thanks so much for this. I've just finished Paths - it's being framed at the moment as a gift for a baby boy
due to be born on 23rd Nov. The mother was 18 last month and became pregnant
having run away from home (she is home again now.) The baby's father is currently in a mental hospital
but will be allowed out with a nurse to attend the delivery. Please do pray for this new life and the Lord's special protection
and blessing for him and for new parents Katherine and Martyn and grandparents Judy
(a dear friend of mine for 40 years since we were classmates) and William.

I'm currently stitching El Fruto del Espiritu for friends who are missionaries in Peru with SIM - BIll and Jean Williamson.
They are currently working in the shanty towns outside Lima with a number of feeding and outreach programmes for mothers and children.
Please pray that God would strenghten and sustain them in this very demanding work and that they would see more and more people coming to know the Lord.

A little thought - is it possible to have English instructions instead of Spanish with a Spanish kit?
I don't have a word of Spanish but would like Spanish kits to stitch as presents for other friends in Peru.

Many thanks for your lovely ministry. It has helped me so much to be able to share with you the burden and heartache I feel for this new baby.
What a wonderful refreshing change from normal shopping online.

God bless you both.

Love,

Jane Langfield - United Kingdom

Your designs are truly a blessing from God!!
I have also been searching for patterns that are not "cutsie" and have had terrible trouble finding something.
Your work is beautiful & an inspiration. Please continue to "create".

May God richly bless you in all that you do!

I was absolutely thrilled to find your website.
I was an infant teacher for 30 years but had to retire early in 2002
due a cancerous tumour on my spine so I spend a great deal of time cross stitching.
I make gifts and pictures with a Christian theme to give to people at church for Christmas and birthdays.

My intention is to actually order all charts eventually.
Being on a pension my funds are a bit limited otherwise I would have ordered the entire set yesterday.

Many thanks for setting up this website. My heart was truly lifted to find you.I will put you on my prayer list and trust it will go really well.

Thank you again.

Marilyn - United Kingdom

I've just ordered five of your kits. I have no clue on how to read a chart.
I did cross stitch when I was very young in missionettes club in church.
However, it been twenty something years and I cannot read a chart. Prayerfully, I can do this.
I just love the ministry you have and would like to share this hand made gifts with friends and loved ones.
I believe it to be a great way of spreading the gospel and uplifting spirits.
Please pray for me that I may be able to do this.

God Bless!

Wilderness - Isaiah 43:19
Joyful Expressions - Cross Stitch Bible Verses
I don't have the first clue about cross stitching, and don't really have time to learn..
but I love all your designs. The scripture "Behold, I will do something new; now it will spring forth, do you perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." Isaiah 43:19 ,
Well, this is the 1st scripture God gave me during our journey through adoption.
5 months before we adopted Antonio, God totally spoke to me, letting me know something NEW was coming - a child was coming.
God did make a way that seemed impossible, possible.
And, Antonio did spring forth from his birthmom's womb (he was a C-section baby), so Pedro and I saw him spring forth into our lives, on the day he was born.
Isn't God so AWESOME! Anyway, when I saw this scripture on your new design, it made my heart jump for joy!

Take Care!

IN HIM,

MICHELLE

Hello Sandra-

I have enjoyed my order that I have from you. I am currently working on one of them,
and have not found any errors, and so far it is easy to follow. (I am over 1/2 way done).
I have not framed it yet, but I plan to try to CD jewel case and see how I like that.
Some verses that I would like to see are: Psalm 19:14 (May the words of my mouth...), MAtthew 4:19 (Fishers of men),
Isaiah 26:3 (I will keep you in perfect peace...) etc,.

I may order again from you in the future, I will check back in a few months.
I am planning on stitching these for myself, but I may do some as a gift too. Thank you!
