Isaiah 40:31
Chapter 40:30-31
Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men falter, Yet those who wait on the Lord will gain strength anew; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. In this verse Gods comfort, conveyed through Isaiah, to the people of Judah was to "wait" on Him, thereby renewing their strength in Him. The instruction to "wait" on the Lord is not the "waiting" associated with patience. The word "wait" was vernacular used by the Hebrew husbandmen (farmer) of vineyards that identifies the "stake" that the vine grows up and around, enabling it spreads forth its branches and bear fruit. One of the definitions in Strong's Hebrew and Greek Dictionary for the word "wait" means; A primitive root; to bind together (perhaps by twisting).
Regarding
"...will gain strength anew; They will mount up with wings like eagles...", eagles moult their tattered frayed feathers, thereby renewing their strength of flight with fresh feathers.
They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Within this analogy; eagles possess a strength within their broad long wings that enable them to
glide in strong winds (difficult times) allowing them to "rest" within the turbulence. In contrast, smaller birds must exert much effort in the flapping of their wings to sustain flight and, as with the young men in our verse, grow weary.
We may additionally note that eagles are carnivorous creatures, meat eaters.
For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But meat is for the mature men, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil. (Heb. 5:13-14) The partakers of milk only, the very basics of Gods word, are the "youths" and the "young men". The youths (Hebrew meaning; infancy to adolescence), because they are young and unable to understand. The vigorous young men, because they rely on their own youthful strength, instead of Gods strength. Both lack maturity. The mature, are people that delve deep into the word of God and know that their strength comes from Him.
Let us be mature in the ways of the Lord. Cling to the word of God and wrap yourself (like a
wait in a vineyard) around Him and He will supply you with a refreshed strength in turbulent times. Then you will mount up with eagles wings, run and not tire or falter.
To God be the glory
